During URITHIFEST 2025 in Atlanta, we were happy to talk with members of Diaspora Council of Tanzanians in America (DICOTA) about the work we are doing through The One New Heart Tanzania/Foundation USA to fight heart disease in Tanzania and Africa.
It was great to see DICOTA medical experts creating awareness to other members on how to check their blood pressure every day and understand what the numbers mean.
We also received a very helpful book on heart failure by Dr. Anita Rich, DNP, RN, CHFN, CDCES, CGNC and her colleagues. It is simple, easy to use and we plan to translate it into Swahili so people in Tanzania can benefit from it too.
High Blood Pressure in the World
✅ 1.28 billion adults have high blood pressure
✅ Almost half don’t know they have it
✅ About 1 in 3 adults are affected
✅ The number has doubled in 30 years
✅ More than 720 million people are not getting treatment
High blood pressure is often called a “silent killer” because many people don’t feel sick until it is serious.
Checking your blood pressure, learning about it and getting treatment can save lives.
