During the Global Heart Hub Unite Summit 2025 in Dublin, Ireland, we were represented by Dr. Lioba Joseph, an internal medicine specialist and advocate for women’s cardiovascular health, who joined global experts and advocates to address one of the most persistent gaps in healthcare:
Women continue to be underdiagnosed, undertreated and overlooked in cardiovascular care.
Across many regions, women’s symptoms of cardiovascular disease often present differently and may be less recognizable, leading to misinterpretation, delayed diagnosis or even dismissal.
Research also shows that women are less likely to receive timely screening, less likely to be referred for advanced testing and less likely to receive guideline-based treatments compared to men.
These gaps are shaped by biological differences, hormonal changes across life stages, social factors, cultural beliefs and long-standing biases in research and healthcare systems.
As organizations dedicated to heart health, we believe women deserve care that reflects their unique risks and realities.
We are committed to:
✅ Raising awareness about women’s cardiovascular risks across all ages
✅ Supporting gender-responsive research and diagnostic approaches
✅ Increasing access to screening and prevention programs
✅ Empowering women to advocate for their health
✅ Ensuring equitable care for women in our region
By showing up in global spaces like the Unite Summit, we affirm our dedication to advancing women’s cardiovascular health and amplifying the voices of women who are too often left behind.
A healthier future for women starts with closing the gaps today.
